More than a dozen Minnesota airports will benefit from $26.3 million in Federal Aviation Administration grants, according to a state Department of Transportation announcement issued in October.
The FAA grants to 14 greater Minnesota airports are the "final round" of FAA funding issued this year to maintain and improve aviation infrastructure throughout the state, according to an Oct. 10 Minnesota Department of Transportation news release.
"This essential funding will help secure safe, efficient air operations for airports serving greater Minnesota," Minnesota Office of Aeronautics Director Cassandra Isackson said in the news release. "The grants will be used primarily to preserve pavements and complete plans to address the needs of greater Minnesota communities."
The grants included $15.85 million to Falls International Airport in International Falls for an environmental study, runway reconstruction and an apron expansion; $337,770 to Mankato Regional Airport for runway and taxiway rehabilitation construction; and $38,817 to Ortonville Municipal Airport for taxiway and apron rehabilitation.
