An action has been approved that allows Abbott Industries to produce a COVID-19 test that gives results in five minutes.
The approval comes from the Food and Drug Administration after Abbott won the approval. With the new test, the company claims that the new tests can deliver negative tests in 13 minutes but positives in as quickly as five minutes.
The FDA approved the tests in a rapid process to help overcome the long waiting on the current tests for the COVID-19 illness. With the approval, Abbott says that they can produce over 50,000 tests per day of the ID NOW COVID-19 test kits.
The United States is considered far behind other countries when it comes down to testing for the coronavirus and the availability of the testing in many areas. This comes after the U.S. ranked the highest in the world for coronavirus cases.
