The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking donations to ensure the downtown can still be brightened by flowers despite the COVID-19 crisis.
With area businesses hit hard by government shutdowns to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the chamber is also facing monetary restrictions as it looks toward the rest of the year.
With various chamber events and fundraising unable to happen in the midst of the crisis, they now have to adjust their budget and find new ways of funding traditions such as the flower baskets that adorn Minnesota and Broadway streets during the spring and summer every year.
There are a total of 248 hanging baskets that adorn New Ulm’s streets, and the entire cost of the flowers and baskets has been covered by the chamber in the past.
The chamber is seeking sponsors for the baskets, with each sponsorship running $50.
Those interested in sponsoring a basket can go to newulm.com or call 507-233-4302.
