In a recent update, Rep. Jeremy Munson (R-23B) responded to the lawsuit against Gov. Tim Walz and riots within the state.
“What both the peaceful protests and the riots exposed was a failure of leadership, at many levels,” Munson said.
He said that at this time, we need resilience in government and law enforcement systems, as residents should not have to fear the authorities or violent rioters.
“There will be many reforms to our laws and government policies as a result of the riots,” Munson said. “These events have exposed many weaknesses in the system from top to bottom.”
The lawsuit against Walz, Munson said, was necessary after Walz decided to declare a “peacetime emergency based on public health situation and write laws without legislative oversight or judicial review for an indefinite period of time.”
Munson said that Walz was attempting to suspend the citizens’ intrinsic rights and that it was an overreach of political power.
“Gov. Walz bypassed the legislative process and the constitutional checks and balances provided by our three branches of government,” Munson said.
Munson said that the lawsuit, if successful, will prevent future imbalances in power.
