Minnesota Sen. Karin Housley (R-St. Marys Point) said new visitation guidelines at nursing homes and assisted living facilities will make "a world of a difference," for those residents who haven't been able to see their loved ones.
Housley's response came after the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) announced scheduled visits from family and friends given the "essential caregivers" designation will soon be allowed. They had been halted in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Housley, who serves on the Senate's Family Care and Aging committee, said in a release on the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus website that she'd asked MDH to allow safe visits time and time again "to mitigate the devastating emotional and physical impact of prolonged isolation." However, up until recently, no action was taken.
She believes the new guidelines will benefit those who've been separated from their loved ones for "far too long."
In the statement she released, Housley said, "This time of uncertainty has been lonely for many, but families will soon be reunited soon."
