Sen. Julie Rosen (R-Vernon Center) voted along with other Senate Republicans to remove Gov. Tim Walz's peacetime emergency powers brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The impact the virus has had on Greater Minnesota is completely different than the metro,” Rosen said, according to Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus. “Unfortunately, the governor continues to treat the entire state the same, without listening to the concerns and the feedback from those of us in rural Minnesota. It’s time for the governor to give up his powers and work with the legislature, so that we can address the unique needs of our individual districts and speed up the recovery process.”
This is the longest peacetime emergency in the state's history. Walz first declared an emergency on March 13.
This is the third time this issue has come before a vote in the Minnesota Senate. The vote was 36 for to 31 against with all Republicans and one Democrat voting for the end of Walz's powers.
