After a recent spike in positive COVID-19 infections, Blue Earth Area schools have postponed in-person learning for some grades, according to the Faribault County Register.

Students in Kindergarten through seventh grade kicked off the year with in-person learning while students in grades eight through 12 will participate in hybrid learning.

"The goal will be to get all of the students back in school for in-person learning on Sept. 21," BEA superintendent Mandy Fletcher told the Faribault County Register. "We have been monitoring the county case rate, which does have a little bit of lag time.”

The COVID-19 test period was from July 26 to Aug. 8. After receiving the results, the Incident Command Team decided on the reopening plan.

The team “consists of the superintendent, district administrators, board members, school nurse, staff, local public health, local healthcare professionals and a BEA student," Fletcher told the Faribault County Register.

Local public health officials told the school district that it would be closely watching the numbers.
