Gov. Tim Walz's emergency powers have been voted in favor of being ended by Sen. Julie Rosen (R-Vernon Center) and the Minnesota Senate for the fourth time.
“We have seen over and over that the impact the virus has had on Greater Minnesota is completely different than the metro,” Rosen said in a press release from Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus. “Unfortunately, after all these months the governor continues to treat the entire state the same. He is not listening to the concerns and the feedback from those of us on the ground in rural Minnesota. It’s time for the governor to give up his powers and work with the legislature, so that we can address the unique needs of our individual communities and speed up the recovery process.”
Walz has had his emergency powers since March 13, which makes it the longest Minnesota has ever been in a state of peacetime emergency powers. All Republican Senators and one Democratic Senator voted in favor of putting an end to Walz's powers, making the vote 36-31.
