Sleepy Eye Public School District secures third spot in student Math test participation in 2021-22 school year

Sleepy Eye Public School District ranked third in the Brown County for test participation, with 257 students taking the Math portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Sleepy Eye Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year rose by 35.3% over the previous year.

Sleepy Eye Public School District's students achieved an average Math proficiency rate of 38% in 2021-22 school year.

Eighth grade students stood out with 19% of them exceeding standards in Math, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, third grade students had the most room for improvement, with 47% not meeting the expected standards.

Sleepy Eye Public School District encompasses schools within Brown County and has a main office in Sleepy Eye.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
