Minnesota State Representative Erica Schwartz (R-North Mankato) has provided an update on recent legislative activities as House Republicans completed their first full week in the majority since 2018. Rep. Schwartz described the atmosphere at the Capitol as one of renewed purpose, with lawmakers advancing key pieces of legislation.

Among the initiatives highlighted by Rep. Schwartz is a bonding bill she introduced to secure nearly $1.9 million for upgrades to the Lafayette Water Treatment Plant. She stated that this legislation aims to ensure clean and safe water for the community.

Rep. Schwartz also noted a visit from Governor Tim Walz and First Lady Gwen Walz to the House chamber, where they discussed upcoming legislation with members across party lines. "It was a great opportunity to visit about upcoming legislation and I look forward to working together to get things done for the people of Minnesota," she said.

In addition, Rep. Schwartz joined her Republican colleagues in sending a letter to the Executive Director of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), seeking answers regarding compliance with President Trump’s Executive Order related to girls’ sports in Minnesota. She emphasized, "We stand with the vast majority of Minnesotans who believe in ensuring fairness, safety, and equality in girls’ athletics. Every young female athlete deserves a level playing field, and we’re committed to making sure that happens."

She continued, "This isn’t just about sports—it’s about protecting the hard-earned opportunities that generations of young girls have fought for. We won’t stand by while those opportunities are threatened. We’re in this fight for justice, fairness, and equal opportunities, ensuring that all girls can compete in a safe, supportive environment. Minnesotans deserve to have their voices heard, and we won’t back down from this battle for what’s right!"

Rep. Schwartz also met with Susan Arndt, City Manager for Mankato, discussing collaboration on legislative efforts aimed at addressing local needs such as infrastructure and public safety. "It was a productive conversation, full of ideas on how we can work together to address the city's needs and improve the quality of life for everyone who calls Mankato home," she said.

She added her commitment remains focused on working alongside local leaders: "As always, my commitment is to work alongside local leaders like Susan to ensure we’re pushing forward solutions that matter most to you, the residents."

Rep. Schwartz encouraged constituents from District 18A to reach out with feedback or concerns regarding state issues: "As always, I want to hear from you! Your ideas, concerns, and feedback help shape the work I do for our district...My office is here to serve you, and I’m always ready to listen."
