Minnesota State Representative Erica Schwartz has expressed frustration over the state legislature’s failure to reach a deal by the official adjournment deadline of May 19. Schwartz stated that she and her House Republican colleagues have continued negotiations and worked on policy language in an effort to move forward.

In her update, Schwartz criticized Governor Tim Walz for campaigning in South Carolina during ongoing budget discussions at the Capitol. She referenced comments made by Walz encouraging his party to “be a little meaner” and take a more aggressive stance against former President Trump. According to Schwartz, “His exact words? ‘Maybe it's time for us to be a little meaner, a little bit more fierce, because we have to ferociously push back on this.’”

Schwartz argued that Minnesotans are not seeking heightened political conflict but instead want safer communities, government accountability, and responsible budgeting. “We should be leading with clarity and purpose—not political theater,” she said.

She also cited Representative Max Rymer’s remarks: “If Walz runs for re-election, his entire 3rd term will instantly be devoted to running for President. Given our spending, fraud, crime problems—how’s that remotely acceptable?”

Schwartz called for leadership focused on Minnesota residents rather than national ambitions. “It’s time to lead. Our state needs a Governor who is present, focused, and committed to the people of Minnesota—not someone auditioning for a national spotlight.”

During the week, Schwartz visited MRCI (Managed Resources Consulting Inc.), meeting with Chief of Client Directed Services Julie Lux; CEO Patrick "Casey" Westhoff; and Chief Business and Marketing Officer Tami Reuter. She described their work as empowering individuals across Minnesota.

Schwartz also recounted an encounter with State Highway Patrol Chief Gabe at her stepson’s baseball game. She noted it was a reminder of community connections outside legislative duties.

She concluded by emphasizing the importance of focus during the special session: “This special session is too important for distractions and political drama. Minnesotans deserve leaders who show up, get down to business, and deliver results—not soundbites or national auditions.”
