Minnesota State Representative Erica Schwartz has provided an update to constituents as the fall season begins, highlighting ongoing legislative efforts and expressing concerns about state leadership and policy priorities.

In her message, Rep. Schwartz referenced Governor Tim Walz’s announcement of his intention to seek a third term in 2026. The governor described his campaign as a continuation of “historic progress” and called for Minnesotans to “come together.” However, Rep. Schwartz pointed out that many families are experiencing different realities, mentioning issues such as strained school resources, rising taxes, and community safety concerns.

Rep. Schwartz addressed the possibility of a special legislative session but noted the lack of specific information available to lawmakers and the public at this time. She questioned which policies would be considered, who would be involved in decision-making, and how proposed plans might affect residents.

Citing results from a recent KSTP poll, Rep. Schwartz outlined constituent priorities: mental health (40%), gun safety (30%), school security (17%), and criminal penalties (10%). She stated that these issues align with her current legislative focus on student safety, mental health access, and accountability for repeat violent offenders.

She highlighted the SHIELD Act as an example of recent action taken by the legislature. According to Rep. Schwartz, this law provides funding for practical safety improvements in schools such as secure classroom doors, duress alarms linked directly to law enforcement agencies, and staff training programs intended to improve emergency response.

Rep. Schwartz also emphasized the need for robust mental health services in Minnesota along with expanded treatment options for patients. She expressed support for measures ensuring consistent justice for individuals who repeatedly violate laws.

“Minnesota families deserve leaders who listen, act thoughtfully, and prioritize real solutions over political theater,” said Rep. Schwartz.

The representative closed her update by encouraging constituents to stay engaged through social media or direct outreach: “As always, hearing from you keeps me grounded and focused on what matters most: Minnesota families, students, and communities.”

Rep. Schwartz said she remains committed to keeping her district informed about developments at the Capitol while working toward solutions aimed at protecting students and supporting families across Minnesota.
