Following recent federal raids and investigations into alleged fraud within Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services program, Representative Joe Schomacker (R–Luverne), the Republican Lead on the House Human Services Finance and Policy Committee, released a statement criticizing state leadership.
"Once again, Governor Walz and his political cronies at the Department of Human Services attempt to distract the public from their failures by shifting the conversation to Federal spending. State funded political activism and talking points have no place when millions of taxpayer dollars are being defrauded. I am thankful that the US Attorney's office can clean up the mess the department and this administration have made," Schomacker said.
The Housing Stabilization Services program was created to assist vulnerable Minnesotans with housing support. Since its launch in 2020, it has distributed over $300 million to providers, a figure that is much higher than initial estimates of about $12 million. The significant increase in spending has drawn scrutiny as federal authorities investigate claims of large-scale fraud and abuse.
