State Rep. Todd Lippert has brought his sex education bill to the Minnesota House of Representatives for a discussion, but Rep. Peggy Bennett does not support the bill, believing that it will “sexualize our children,” according to ABC-6 News.
This is not the first time that Lippert has brought this bill before the House of Representatives. Tabled previously, Lippert has said that the bill is necessary to address the issues of sex and also has included topics for the LGBTQ community to account for the recent shift in the acceptance of an individual’s sexual identity and orientation.
Opponents to the bill, such as Bennett, on the other hand, said that it opens a door between morality and education.
“It is not about teaching children and our young people how to have sex,” Lippert said. “That is not what a comprehensive approach to sex education is about. It is about providing medically accurate information and entrusting young people with information about who we are as sexual beings so they can make better decisions moving forward into adulthood.”
The primary concern is that this program is meant to start educating children in kindergarten.
